Melanism

Mutations & Defects
Melanism: A short history

Melanistic finley are those born with an overproductive pigment mutation that tints their normal colors heavily with black. Historically more common than albinism, Melanism is found more often in Southern populations, where weather is hot and usually sunny moreso than not.

Melanistic finley lead a much rougher life socially than Albinistic finley however. Due to their physically dark colors and equally as stunted magic abilities as their pale cousins, many are viewed as being born affected by Void, causing social shunning or even outcast from a young age.

The mutation that causes their overproduction of pigmentation also causes a severe issue with absorbing and casting the mana around them due to their mana organs also being affected by this pigment mutation, which leads to a lot of mana burn cases amongst all species, but most prevalently documented in draken due to their strong ties with mana.

The highest level of magic that a Melanistic finley has been documented to cast is up to the third level, with higher levels causing steadily progressing mana burn, and even a comatose like state in weaker individuals, such as dual draken. This is being researched into more by doctors around Klaedon to see if there is any way to increase the odds of higher casting and quality of life for all the affected individuals.

Color Picking and placements

When choosing colours for your Melanistic character it is important to remember that you must choose colours from the provided palettes and closely follow the guidelines when making your design.
Please be sure to include your colour choices on your application! Members of staff will compare your colours to the palette, so it is important that you ensure they are correctly colour picked.

You may have up to four (4) markings. You may use two (2) secondary colours that are available on the secondaries palette for the markings on the character.
Eye color should be brightly colored orange, yellow, or green. Reference colors are provided below.

Legal ✔

• Colour placement should not take up more than 40% of your characters  body. Their base colour should be easily identifiable.

Symmetrical placements count as a single placement. So if you put the same colour and placement on both of your Astralit's front paws it would count as one (1) placement.

• Markings added should not overlap or touch

Illegal ✘

• Mixed-matching inner ears, eyes, or mana organs is not allowed

• Stripes, numerous small spots and overly complex markings are not allowed. Remember to keep your initial design simple, you'll be able to customize it later!

• Melanistic characters have regularly flesh-toned tongues and mouths. Do not give them abnormal colours like green, blue, etc.

Your Palette Choices

Melanistic finley all use an universal color palette, and do not have access to Tinter. Unlimited colors only unlocks extra secondaries from the Melanistic palette. These finley cannot use standard palettes, or any special MYO palette colors, and are locked strictly to their own.
When breeding, children of Melanistic parents cannot colorpick from the Melanistic colors on their parent for base, or upgrade colors

Rarities that add an extra color not on the Melanism palette MUST be dark in nature, with saturated colors needing a 50-80% pure black overlay layer to make them accurately pigmented. No colors may be pure black or darker than the darkest color on the Melanistic secondaries palette per the color rules.

Third Eye Gems are also affected by the Melanism mutation, and their special colors can be found below. These colors may not be used for anything BUT the Melanistic Draken's TEG!
