Welcome to another edition of The Flowering Star!
Newsletter looking off? We have implemented new CSS to keep newsletters consistent and make them easier to write! If this page looks off, please do a hard-refresh on your browser!
Additionally we wanted to let you all know that from now on, plot comics will be posted seperately from our usual newsletters! This is just to give ourselves a bit more freedom with pacing and the like. We apologize to everyone dissapointed to not find a comic here- the next comics will drop soon to a news page near you!
Staff has been hard at work clarifying and re-categorizing upgrades! Please keep in mind that the following section is still a WIP, and that not every trait might be done!
The "Rarity AP" category is being phased out. Instead, rarities will be placed into whatever other category they belong in. For example, Popsicle Horns will now be found in horn AP, Broomstick Tail in Tail AP, and Temporal Glands in body AP. If you want to search for all rarities, you can still do so simply by searching for the "Rarity" rarity!
We have added a new type! This type is called "seasonal" and will hold all upgrades that can be applied only in set parts of the year, like Oddbal eyes, Equinox Antlers, Frilly Collar and Sugar Stars. These upgrades aren't otherwise being edited; their rules still remain the same. We are just differentiating upgrades available year round from those only available for a limited time!
With the "seasonal" upgrade, we are also pro/demoting the following upgrades:
One last change regarding upgrades! A few upgrades are going to be merged. These are mostly upgrades that are essentially the same thing for different species.
Upgrades being merged are:
- Faker's ears and Nyulop Ears (Keeping the name "Nyulop Ears")
- Suiryn Paws and Webbed Claws (Keeping the name "Suiryn Paws")
- Fluffy Body & Body Fluff (Keeping the name "Fluffy Body")
- Barb Tail Tip & Devil Tail (Keeping the name "Devil Tail")
- Feather Curtain & Tailwind (Keeping the name "Tailwind")
- Additionally, this upgrade now has the prerequisite of needing to have "Picori tail"
- Peacock Tail & Long Elegant Tail (Keeping the name "Peacock Tail")
- Webbed Ears & Aquatic Ears (Keeping the name "Webbed Ears")
These merges have not been completed on-site, however if your character's upgrades change somewhere in the next month you'll now know why!
Lastly, all upgrades will be updated with a little section to show availability, like seen here! This is a large undertaking for the staff, so this especially will be rolled out gradually over the next few months!
Another small bit of maintenance: our rules have been updated on both the site and the discord. This was mostly done to remove some rules that referenced Deviantart and the way the group used to run, and has replaced these now redundant rules and replaced them with rules pertaining the usage of our website instead. For both the Discord and site rules some additional rules regarding and examples of undesired conduct have also been added.

Tis that season again, when the mischievous trio of Topsy, Memento, and Corduroy make their rounds! Seems like everyone has something to share, wonder what will be in store for this year?
Yep Memco Babies are back! With a special surprise!
After seeing Astralits for the first time, it looks like Memento and Corduroy are able to make Astralit Memcos!
Memcos will be handled a bit differently this year compared to last time! To get a Memco kid, you will have to submit a prompt! This prompt replaces the Affinity image from last time, and can be found here.
When you have the key, you will have an unlimited amount of time to submit your Memco MYO. Please keep in mind that Memco's need to be submitted on a special baby application template. These apps can be found here. For those who have made a memco kid previously, keep in mind to submit with the Memco’s Affinity colors NOT the Sporepole colors.

The mushroom madness also returns with the lovable Sporepoles! To capture a Sporepole simply draw your character catching a Sporepole or draw your character showing off what they’ll feed to their Sporepole. Once your image is finished submit your image to the Paschaster/Topsy Turvy gallery and once approved submit to the prompt found HERE. Once your prompt is approved you’ll be given a Mount Slot for your Toadstool, you can submit it for approval any time after receiving the slot.

Looks like Memento and Corduroy are practicing their Spirit magic, with supervision of Topsy, and they would want some finley to help them practice! To help simply leave a comment below on this journal and you will be rolled a random upgrade ranging from standard to early bird to rarity, this is one comment per user and thus one upgrade per user. These upgrades can be applied to babies. Once you’ve received your upgrade you may draw a fullbody image of your character with it applied as a normal upgrade application image.

Meanwhile in Xaaida...
As the preparations for the First Taw kick off, many islanders notice that the Thaw has been taking a strangely long time. There has been no rain- nor snow- and the ice and snow only ever so slightly started to melt. Strange storms have been picking up, leaving travel by sea or sky impossible. Even the annual Betta migration seems to be delayed because of the harsh weather.
Eventually, a strong blizzard kicks up which blankets the Island in snow and limits travel and communication between Villages...
Show how your character helps the migrating bettas! The ice is suffocatingly thick this year, and the oceans are extra dangerous. Several bettas have already washed ashore, and many others are struggling in the seas, being picked off by predators.
Show how your character stays warm during this freak weather! Temporary housing may have collapsed under the weight of the snow, and more stable structures may be difficult to get in and out of.

The Aftermath

Tatshka looked up from her work- a line of flowers she was weaving- watching gleeful eyes as it landed a short distance away from them. She caught sight of something upon her horns, and pointed it out to her. One had landed on her, crawling down to sit on her third eye gem before taking off again. They must like her, Tatshaka laughed. She was as pretty as the flowers around them.
She denied it. Tatshka made a final knot in her creation, and ever so carefully crowned her. And a beautiful flower deserves a flower crown.
A flower crown for the most beautiful draken she had ever known.
Her smile was as warm as the sun shining down upon them.
Tatshka stood suddenly, declaring that even though she was the most beautiful draken… she wasn’t as fast as she was. Before she could move, Tatshka tapped her shoulder and dashed off, giggling. She ran a good distance from her, calling out.
“Vortea!”
Vortea turned to face her- turned to see her smiling face.
A dark sky, a field littered with corpses.
Her claws shook as she stared around at the battlefield. Finley slashed down voidstructs and clashed with voidtouched. Finley fell to the ground, limbs voided, bodies… missing. Cries echoed around her. Tatshka stood in the middle of it all, eyes wide and looking frantically.
“Vortea! VORTEA! HELP!” The sea of fighters bumped her, and Vortea found herself unable to move through the crowd.
“VORTEA! Vortea!” Tatshka’s voice shifted, no longer her own. An unknown voice called to her as Vortea fell, losing sight of Tatshka in the sea of corpses. “Vortea! Vortea!”
Her eyes shot open and Vortea jolted awake, sitting straight up.
“Void… Catastrophe… ”
Vortea panted, hearing the voice echo in her head- heard it continue to echo in her head.
It wasn’t just the nightmare.
“The stone…”
Her heart dropped.
Leaping out of bed, Vortea dressed herself hurriedly. She flung open her door, bolting out of her room and house, taking flight for the museum. She made her way to the back quickly.
Glass littered the floor, and the podiums that held mirrors, a crystal sat empty. And worst of all, the podium in the very back room sat empty, crystalline shards scattered around it.
He had escaped.
He had escaped.
Vortea stepped out of the storeroom, looking down at the wisps of void floating where once guards had been. Innocent lives… They didn’t deserve what happened to them.
As much as she wanted to immediately rush after Hollow, she knew that there was nothing to be done. The sun had fully risen, and he had likely broken out before it had even peeked over the horizon. Changing focus, she rushed through the halls to where Tobias slept. Pounding on the door, she gave him just a moment before shoving her way into the room. The tan nyulop all but leapt from his bed, throwing his blankets aside as he looked at Vortea in half-asleep surprise.
The Council gathered quickly at her emergency call, assembling in the town hall in under an hour. Confused, yet serious faces turned toward her as she spoke.
A beat. Two beats. The mood of the room shifted from confusion to fear.

Staff is still working hard behind the scenes, and this month we bring even MORE content updates for you!
To kick things off, we have a few quality of life updates:
Expedition sign-ups will now default to being OPEN! This means you can sign up for teams or change your teams' members or characters at any time. Sign-ups may close periodically as needed, but you guys will receive a heads up beforehand!
The Mana Dust Shop is reopening as well! This, like expedition sign-ups, will default to OPEN but may close periodically.
The automated breeding roller is still underway! For now, it is functional on the Admin-side of the site only. Staff can begin to use it for regular member breedings, but please keep in mind it is still being worked on and there may be some bugs we haven't caught yet! We will be utilizing this as a test period for the roller. We are hoping to release it fully for members fairly soon!
Last but not least, the baby cap is being removed! Or at least, being changed to level 50 like it is for adults. Staff discussed it and felt that the baby cap being so low was more of a net negative than a net positive. Babies will not be able to participate in the Level 100 Challenge, and will still be limited in the upgrades they can apply, activities they can participate in, amongst other things. BUT for those of you who want more time with your kiddos, now you don't have to worry about their EXP being voided! (Not for a while longer, at least!) You can still grow them up at level 5, too!

Additionally, our winners for the Staff Challenge: Dream Upgrade! Unfortunately, we did not get enough entrants to choose 5 winners for the challenge. The upgrades were put to a staff vote, and the three winning designs which received the most votes amongst staff were Kindled Horns, Sugar Stars, and Spooky Hood! All entrants will receive a reward of 10 Capella and 15 Mana Dust for entering!
It seems a bit colder on the Isles than usual for this time of year...

You enter the guild hall, filled with excited glee at what awaits you. You've heard from the council that Miss Angel, Mister Taft, and Mister Castro have put together an awesome party for the kids your age, and you couldn't be more ready to finally have some fun with the others your age! Festive colored streamers hung from the rafters of the hall, big tables filled with goodies and tasty food were lined up on one wall, and smaller tables sat around the room, surfaces covered with protective paper. Each table is filled with a bunch of very fun and interesting looking craft supplies and paper. In the far corner, there looks to be a bunch of toys, and other game materials, possibly for later on. There's confetti and balloons scattered around on the ground as well, and several other kits and draklings have begun playing games with them. Oh what fun this is already looking to be!

1.) Draw your kid writing their name down and dropping their paper slip in the name bowl! Angel will draw the names, and hand each child who they are making a card for.
2.) Once your kiddo has their name drawn, it's time to get to work! Lots of fancy craft supplies have been offered for you to take advantage of. Do they go simple with their card, or do they go rouge with their fledgeling artistic talents? Show off what theyve made! (you may also make a real life card with this prompt, and net yourself +50 extra exp!) Examples of both card formats can be found below this list
3.) Draw your character receiving their card that was made for them! What's their reaction to their (hopefully) lovely handmade gift? Or, if you choose, draw your character handing out their card to the person they were assigned to!
4.) Snack time! There's a load of goodies awaiting you thanks to the adults! Cookies, cupcakes, drinks, even soda and ice cream! (kept cool and frozen thanks to Angel!)
5.) After the cards have been handed out, and snack time has concluded, it's time to play some games to get some of that crazy sugar fueled energy out! (here's some examples on what you can draw being played! )
6.) Cleanup! Does your kid stay around to help pick up after the party like a good little noodle, or do they run back home to their house/parents to show their gifts and spoils of the day?
[Event] Blind Dates!

You step into the garden behind the Guild Hall, and you're met with small lanterns hanging on strings all around the area, lighting it with a gentle golden glow. Circular tables are set up around the garden, vases of flowers and a small candle in the center of each one letting off a soft glow. Angel is sitting at a table to the entrance of the garden, and smiles at you warmly as you approach. She hands you a clipboard, with a blank form for you to fill out, and tells you to return it to her when finished. When you return with the proper information, Angel takes it, and tells you she will be back in a few minutes. When she returns, she hands you a small piece of paper with your partner for the night's name on it and what table they're assigned to. Taft is on the back of the Guild Hall, catering for the event. There's a lot of tasty looking meals and desserts set out and ready for serving, and you take your assigned seat eagerly. It's all so nicely set up! You can't wait to see who your partner is.....

1.) Want a sweet gift? Draw your character going out and catching the perfect heart betta for their blind date! are the successful, or do they come out wet and empty handed?
2.) Not the type to go and get wet? Why don't you go shopping instead! See if you can find a pretty bouquet, or maybe some treats and a nice garment?
3.) Kick that sweet tooth! Why don't you try heading to Taft's shop and seeing if he has any baked sweets or other goodies you can bring your date? i'm sure they’d appreciate the thoughtfulness!
4.) Draw your character getting ready to meet their date! Do they dress to the nines, or simple and sweet?
5.) Meetup time! This is the first time you and your date are seeing each other. Do you know them already? Is it a surprise? How to you react to seeing each other?
6.) Draw how the date went! Did you guys hit it off, and plan to meet up after the event to know each other more? did it go sourly despite your best efforts?
7.) If you're so inclined to after the date, why don't you walk your partner back home? It's always polite, and you can get some extra chatting time in! If they live in the outskirts or further, its also a nice time to enjoy the lovely quiet countryside.

Back by popular demand, Double EXP has returned for the remainder of February! Between now and 11:59 PM EST on February 28th, 2026, ALL submissions (event related or not) are valued at DOUBLE the regular EXP.
What does this mean? This basically means that you calculate your total earnings for a submission and then double them! So if your submission would normally earn 100 EXP, during Heartsgiving, it'll earn 200 EXP instead!
Can my islander character(s) earn double EXP too? Yes, of course! We wouldn't dare leave Xaaida out!
Heartsgiving Upgrades!
Now….the rewards you can unlock for completing the prompts: (art towards either event counts for your total!)
Completing a single prompt unlocks the ability to apply ONE upgrade of choice from the Heartsgiving 2026 batch!
So if you complete 4 prompts total from either event, you may apply all of the upgrades!
You may apply each new earned upgrade Twice, and upgrades can also be applied to Islanders. You will have the entire rest of the month to complete the prompts of your choice.

February 2026 Newsletter
Welcome to another edition of the Flowering Star!
Staff has been busy behind the scenes and this month we have a lot of content for everyone!
First things first, Astralit have recieved a ton of updates, the first of which is their unique bonding and courtship as a species. This was updated last month, but should be repeated here. What type of relationships does your Astralit form? Perhaps this is the month to explore it whether they are in a Thrip or a Plume! All the information can be found on the bond and courtship page here!

Space Debris are officially here!
Although Space Debris Astralit were teased in the past Star Sail festival with the introduction of the isochronal spirits Bismo, Knatu, and Nodel, they have not been officially released. But now they are here!

Astralit breeding has been released!
You may view the updated breeding page here! Alongside this update comes a minor rewrite of the breeding rules to clarify process that were changed during the move to the LoreKeeper website, as well as some minor changes in color rules. Be sure to read the page over carefully if you are planning any breedings!
With the breeding update and Heartsgiving, this month we have some new Breeding Exclusive Upgrades!
Remember that these are breeding exclusive upgrades, meaning they can only be obtained by rolling them during breeding!
