Whispers in the Dark

Posted 1 week and 2 days ago :: Last edited 1 week and 2 days ago by Cassanovasanchor

During a cold winter’s night, you hear a voice calling loudly to you from somewhere in the town. This…feels different than the other times you heard those voices. This time, your body seems to move on its own, following the voice as if pulled physically. You slip out into the chill, walking the streets of Whistler Crest under the waning moon as you follow this finley’s call. Soon, you find its origin point: within the museum storage. It may be Tobias? Vortea? You’re unsure. You press forward to find the answers.
You follow the voice and within a protective case conveniently propped open, see a strange, black stone…

stone

Something big is approaching, and it requires something from you…

As the next part of the arc, there will be a very important plot figure picked right from the very members of Whistler Crest. With this need, we are seeking one character to use.

This process will be conducted in the form of a DTE/WTE (draw to enter, write to enter) raffle. You must draw AND/OR write your character in the situation as described in the opening paragraph of this prompt. Did the voice wake them? Why do they follow the voice? What do they do when they find the stone? This will provide important context to the next parts of the group story, so detail is encouraged.

REQUIREMENTS

The character you are submitting and drawing MUST be a full grown adult, meaning they have an approved adult application and their mana organ(s) must be fully grown. Slow growing characters are not able to enter.

The image requires a minimum of a full body and simple background including the stone, and a submission with only literature requires a minimum of 500 words.
This is a raffle and winners will be randomly drawn from the entrants in order to keep chances fair.

IF YOUR CHARACTER IS CHOSEN…

They will become a very important future plot device for the group and will no longer belong to you. You will be credited for the design, but know they will be used as an NPC for the group, and understand that they may not act exactly the same as before. As compensation for this, you will be granted a MYO slot containing all exclusive upgrades your character may have had (such as early bird upgrades, rarities, RAPs, etc.)

To submit your entry, please comment below on this newspost with the following form:

Character ID:

Link to Submission:

You may post your submissions to the 'General' gallery folder.

The deadline is February 19th, 11:59 PM CST.

January 2026 Newsletter

January 2026 Newsletter

Hello Crestians! It's a new year and you know what that means? A new newsletter!

First things first, the Whistler Crest site is permanently open now! This was a change that happened last month, but bears repeating now. If anyone you knew was waiting for the chance to join, let them know!

Secondly, something that has been in the works for a couple of months now: magic questlines! Previously, magic was handled on site through the research system, but this has been overhauled with the Questlines extension. Magic questlines are individual to the character and progress can be tracked under the character’s page by going to their profile then “manage questlines” just under the “history” box. Here you can view all the different branches of magic that your character is able to learn, view prompts associated with each tier, and complete steps once your prompt has been approved! Mastery limits are still in place as listed on each species’ individual magic pages, but now it is easy to track all of your magic progress in one place!

Thirdly, with the release of how to become energy-touched, we are additionally releasing the rules for tier 6 injuries: death. This ruleset can be found on the injuries page. Be aware that this is a permanent decision, so if you are considering death for your characters, consider it carefully.

Oops all Astralit!

There are many more Astralit upgrades that have released, which you can view here! These vary in level, so make sure you can earn them before applying!

You hear a voice… Who is it?

Take a look...?

Also...

A new figure has been spotted on the edges of town. They appear short, donning a grey-black cloak with rather familiar imagery on it...nobody is quite sure why they're here, but there's worried whispers floating all about what they could be, or what they could want.

December 2025 Newsletter

Hello Crestians! Another month arrives and with it (slightly late!) comes the Flowering Star!
Reminder that both the Deep Abyss Caverns Expedition and the Troublesome Fae prompt are still running until December 14th at 11:59 PM CST. That means you have about a week left to get your entries in from the posting of this newsletter.

Secondly, the website will open for a second time for sign-ups later this month. This will be announced in our #newbie-world chat in the Discord, so be sure to keep an eye out!

For the month of December, the choice of one of the upgrades above will be available for application for anyone who draws a polished gift image of another user's character. Spread some cheer to other members!

Aside from the conclusion of the Expedition and the Fae prompts, this month will more quiet. As a small prompt if you would like something to keep you busy, if you draw your characters doing something related to Kindreaux, you may claim an additional +20 EXP from doing so. Just submit a claim linking this newsletter as proof of doing so.

With that, we've reached the end of this Newsletter! Until next month!

November 2025 Newsletter #2

November 2025 Newsletter #2

Hello Crestians! Welcome to a surprise edition of the Flowering Star!

While Vortea leads an expedition to the Abyss Caverns, many finley remain in town, daily life marching ever on. For most residents of Whistler Crest, life has been mostly the same. Except from one little thing... Fae spirits.

Fae spirits appearing around town, visible to those who normally cannot see them. Residents started to report seeing fae in their homes, in shops around town. Often the small spirits are just looking at them, but many are getting into trouble! Whether it be getting into food, knocking over breakable objects, or taking off with items! It has gotten so intense, the odd behaviour caught the attention of the Spiritualists. They have gathered together and announced to the town a plan to deal with the mischievous fae.

Good day everyone! It was brought to our attention that for unknown reasons, Faes are pestering the townsfolk. We will do our best to investigate the situation, but as the spirits are roaming through the streets, we will need to take certain steps to ensure no tragedy happens when interacting with them.

Some of you may be familiar with this item. It's a crystal used to store Mana. When it's sufficiently charged, it may serve as a good repellant. As we are dealing with minor spirits, I reckon placing them in your house or around town should be enough to discourage spirit activity in those areas. We will gladly offer our guidance and help to anyone willing to help us charge the crystals.

As for the... more malevolent Fae... Those crystals can be used to capture them. Once they are contained, we can release them away from the town.

One of the ways to deal with the spirits without causing any harm is simply trying to keep them away from households. Finley can charge the crystal with the help of the Spiritualists and a bit of their mana to create a repellent for the mischievous fae. It’s only a temporary measure, but will help the particularly affected locations. Leota and the Spiritualists will also be catching the more malevolent spirits. Although most of the spirits are just causing minor mischief, some have been… different. They ask any townsfolk with magical capabilities to help charge the crystals with more potent mana, allowing them to capture the destructive spirits, and to go out with a Spiritualist to catch them. Sure hope we figure out the cause of this soon…

Prompt Requirements:

Draw your character helping repel the mischievous fae! They can be encountering a fae spirit, working with one of the Spiritualists to charge a crystal, putting up some of the repelling crystals, or other similar actions! Additionally, if your character knows at least 1 tier of Magic, you can draw your character joining the spiritualists in catching the more malicious fae. These fae are not acting like themselves, and may cause mild bumps and bruises, but cannot seriously harm your character.

Pictures must have a complex background, and at least one fullbody in order to count!

Deadline: December 14th

Prompt here

Rewards: For helping the Spiritualists, if you do not own one already, you will be rewarded with a planchette of choice and 10 Capella.

Note: 10 Capella is a universal reward, while one of the planchettes may be picked if you do not own either. If you own one planchette - you may not claim another, even if it's a different one.

[Expedition] Deep Abyss Caverns

Posted 2 months and 2 weeks ago :: Last edited 2 months and 2 weeks ago by Cassanovasanchor

Deep Abyss Caverns

Expedition Type: Major - 1 Month
Biome Type: Cave
Average Threat Level: Tier 5 - Your character can be inflicted with Severe scarring wounds, please proceed with the utmost care!

It's been many a year since Swift had led the questing teams to this overwhelmingly dark cave system, and at Vortea’s request, he has relaunched the expedition teams to reinvestigate them for any abnormal signs or activity. Will your character heed the call of adventure?

Before you lies a cave that descends into unspeakable blackness... Should you choose to go forward, you should take a torch (or a fire Draken) or else you're sure you will be completely unable to see what's ahead of you. Several small Drakesprites screech as you enter, swooping around your head playfully before exiting the cave into the sunlight.

This cave descends deep underground, farther than anyone would think they'd have to climb downwards. Be sure to bring your best climbing paws or claws, because it's going to be a workout from here. As you make your way down, common cave sights come into view. Stalactites and stalagmites hang in view everywhere and litter the ground. You should step carefully, so as not to trip over anything! Through narrow passageways, you hear running water... and skittering? Rather, a slinking noise... many slinking noises... gooping? It doesn't sound good. Should you be able to see, creatures blacker than night come into view. Simply unimaginable horrors - though they are small. They lumber and stutter and become more numerous the deeper you go.

The deepest, coldest, parts of the cave host monstrosities that dwarf the previously known Voidstructs, enormous, lumbering forces with haunting whispering groans and slow, angry movements. These are definitely new presences, and thankfully, are sparse enough to be able to avoid them….for the most part. The very deepest parts of the Abyss Cave are cold enough to see ones breath, and strange items are scattered on the ground, unrecognizable, but clearly something. Glittering dust, and crystalline Voidshard fragments are also spread throughout the underbelly of the cave, and are available to grab if you wish, to show to Vortea once you get out.

POTENTIAL ENCOUNTERS

voidstruct2.pngvoidstruct1.png

MINOR VOIDSTRUCT

Threat Level: Tier 4
Territorial?: Will attack on... sight?
Description:
Can these strange monsters even see? Something incomprehensible lies before you... Please get away as fast as possible! This goopy mass seems like it's having a hard time keeping itself together... And touching it feels strange... This... creature moves erratically, strangely, as if it's not used to its own body. Its strange and stiff movements keep it from moving too fast, so you should have ample time to run!

voidstruct_smalgmation.pnglarge_voidstruct.png

MAJOR VOIDSTRUCT

Threat Level: Tier 5
Territorial?: Highly aggressive. Will attack and chase figures in its range
Description:
These lumbering brutes seem to be amalgams of a large amount of Minor Voidstructs fused together into a singular mass. Even more dangerous than their Minor counterparts, these massive creatures move slowly, seemingly glitching erratically in spots as their fused bodies struggle to move in different directions. With enough force you might be able to split it apart….but that bodes to even more trouble. If grabbed by one, the ripping sensation from invisible claws is unbearable, and you may find parts… missing after freeing yourself.

Because of the darkness encompassing this area, you may choose to collaborate with teams that can guide you forward. (A Draken with fire magic or a Nyulop or Astralit able to generate light would be particularly helpful!)

Only officially registered questing teams may take this expedition.

To reiterate, you and your team will have 1 month to draw up the appropriate requirements in order to pass this event.

REQUIREMENTS

*A full image consists of at least one full body with a detailed background, fully shaded

Major or plot-heavy areas will be explored over the course of one real-world month.
These events will have you drawing anywhere from one to three full pictures (shading and background included) of your character (and their team) exploring the area.

If you run solo, you should complete 3 full pictures before the end of the expedition.

If you have 2-3 team members, you should complete 2 full pictures before the end of the expedition.

If you have a full party (4 team members), you should complete 1 full picture before the end of the expedition.

Each team member can draw as many separate entries as required - (If you choose this option, EVERY TEAM MEMBER MUST DRAW AT LEAST ONE IMAGE.) - OR you can choose to collaborate with your team members to meet the requirement.

REWARDS

In order to qualify for rewards, the team leader must submit their entry to the prompt, and include a link to all other images if there are any. If the collaboration option is chosen, the team leader must be the one to submit the final image(s), and assure that all team members are listed as collaborators. Team members then may submit a claim for their rewards after the prompt is approved. (In the event that your team leader is absent and you have completed your work, message a High Council mod on Discord.)

Every team member who participates in this Expedition will receive +200 EXP and +20 Capella. PLEASE SUBMIT TO THE PROMPT FOR THIS EXPEDITION TO CLAIM THE REWARDS! You may only claim this ONCE

FYu9F8EfPW269-image.png

If you participated in this event, you will receive a Void Shard! If you have participated in the first Abyss Cavern expedition, you may NOT claim a second Voidshard.

Upon completion of this expedition, something special will be released!

You have until December 14th at 11:59 PM CST to submit your entries to the Expedition folder and prompt.
Good luck, teams!

November 2025 Newsletter

Hello Crestians! With the entry into a new month comes the Flowering Star!

As the month of October comes to an end, so too does Halloween Havoc.

Just a reminder that the DTA's for the Halloween Havoc adopts are still running! If you are still wanting to enter, you have a few days to do so! As a reminder for the deadlines:

The Harlequin Imps are still running until Novemeber 6th at 11:59 CST!

The Nostraumbus are still running until Novemeber 7th at 11:59 CST!

Second, after a long long time coming...

Draken Magic Rework!

draken_magic_banner.png

Draken magic has finally recieved its completion through a major overhaul! Please carefully read through the updated magic guide as well as check the directories for the updated techniques! Magic Mastery is now possible for Draken. If you have previously learned any magic as a Draken, you may choose equivalent techniques from the new list to match your old ones. Many of the old techniques still remain, however, if you had learned a technique that no longer exists now, you may simply use that previous proof to exchange for a completely different technique. If you need any assistance, feel free to ask in our Discord!

If you need something small to do this Novemeber...

Whistler Crest is running its own Huevember!

This is an entirely optional prompt, but instead is for if you are looking for something small to do during the month of Novemeber! You'll get a small reward out of it as well!

These vary in level, so make sure you can earn them before applying!

It seems there's something happening in the guild hall... Perhaps we'll know more about that soon?

Well well! Seems like you managed to find the escapees!

I can't just leave them like this unfortunately, so good thing you brought them back! Just a little touch of this and that, and they'll be right as rain!

beafinley

If any Finley are still stuck as a Luros, Asra cures them as the final day of October fades...

mmmmmm torkey - star--burnt

With that, we've reached the end of this month's newsletter! Thank you for reading and see you next month!

Halloween Havoc VIII: Nocturne (Prompt 4)

Halloween Havoc VIII: Nocturne

scruffles_cries_into_the_camera

Here we come piping hot into week four of my challenges! How are we feeling folks? The end goal is in sight!

So far, everyone has been doing quite well! I'm very pleased by your hardiness and drive to succeed! This is however, the very last week of my challenges, and its ending with one I would consider to be quite a doozy!

Sorry little ones and young teens! You'll have to sit this week out unfortunately due to its rather dangerous nature, as this week's finale brings in: the Nostraumbus!

These ultra violent flying hazards bring a whole new level of challenge to this finale, as they not only can fly, not only can bite and slash with vicious claws and fangs, they can also breathe FIRE!

I have managed to wrangle five of these beautiful beasties into the skies above your town, and it all comes down to the bravery (or amazing stupidity) of five of your residents to successfully tame these creatures as the ultimate prize!

Do you have what it takes to champion one of these majestic creatures as your own? It's time to show what you got- now don't disappoint!

Five ominous figures swirl in the skies above the town. Will you be able to tame one?

Nostraumbus Species Page

Prompt 4:

There are five Nostraumbus up for DTA/WTA. The main prompt for this week is to depict your character trying to tame one! Details can be found on the prompt submission page. Note that your character must be an adult to try to tame one of the Nostraumbus! You only get one entry, so make your choice wisely!

However, if you do not have an adult character or simply do not want to enter the DTA, there is an alternative prompt. You may depict your character, if they are a child or young teen, or simply do not want to tame a Nostraumbus, helping to gather supplies and put traps together to help the adults who are capturing the Nostraumbus.

REQUIREMENTS:

All requirements are listed on the prompt's page.

REWARDS:

For each completion of the fourth prompt, you may apply Glowing Markings to any character you own.

For full completion of all four prompts, you may apply Asra's Gift to any one character you own.
