[Gift] {WSE} Somebody catch my breath
Koma was still cheering Scout on.
Even though his voice was growing hoarse, even though they were still gripping onto the body of the finley next to him to keep stable, Koma couldn't do anything but scream her name in triumph. It was the least he could do in this situation, still in the middle of recovering from almost passing out let alone suffocating to death before their plum-furred saviour came to kite the great palid horror away and into her circle of numbing rage. Watching with every thrash and flail, some even enough for him to give a peeping wince in the fearful off-chance that this rodeo was to be her last; it was as exciting as it was nerve-wracking for all who stood on that mountain. A nyulop so far gone on losing her world that she was hell-bent on destroying the siren's through hell or high-water, such spectacles as this weren't typical for their usual island dwelling lives so many were making the most of the stories they could tell of it.
Wide green eyes with wonder and ears pricked with awe, oh if only the elders could see this bold battle as it unfolded. Scout fangs and claws deep in a monster with the expedition cheering her on with a rousing shout, it almost felt like to Koma that they had a chance in all this for once. A slither of an opening to take this disorienting destroyer down no matter if it meant their lives coming with them in the process, a glimmer of hope in the darkness of the snowstorm! A song of triumph that even the wind would carry on its wings for years to come, but that triumph was yet to pass. The expedition was still weak and weary from fighting what felt like a losing battle for spirits knows how long now; when did they start and when will it end? Nobody truly knew till the silvery-grey thing drew its final breath and, for those who still believed that she was in hiding, Teles made her return to the party... But alas, that wasn't in this moment at all, not even as Koma turned their gaze from the shrieking skirmish to the curves of wood resting in amongst the snow-laden landscape.
His bow, a bit beaten up from Scout's use of it but still it was his bow.
Cast aside and awaiting the return of its master and their running-low quiver, though I'm sure some other archer wouldn't mind sparing a bundle or two once he got their bearings proper. Either way Koma began to shakily trudge towards it, waving thankfully their non-broken paw in a dismissive gesture as he swore to the Astralit who helped them stand that he was doing better enough to move.. Its just going to grab their bow after all, no aim to fire just to retrieve it for the sake of retrieval; nobody wants to leave their bow out on a battlefield like this. Could get lost, could get trampled, some shifty bastard could even dare steal it whilst he was catching their breath!
Though, no amounts of arrows could help him with what they heard on the wind.
The whistling of a body being thrown from one side of the mountain to the other without even a single sound of complaint or distress bar the gasps and shrieks of terror from those watching, the sort of dreadful soundscape that makes your hair stand to attention in fear of the worst. Whipping his head rather painfully towards the sight of Scout's silent scream as she soared across the air in forcefully muted horror, looking as if she yearned to howl out but the air itself refused to let her cast her voice once more; all the while Koma frantically broke into a sprint just to follow her flailing body as it began to dive closer and closer to the ground. The pale-furred nyulop being only a tail's lengh away when she finally collided with the snow and rocks of the floor below with a painful smack and a spattering of blood that sprayed out across the innocent white dusting on their surroundings. The way her lifeless body bounced feebly after the impact was sickening, casting further gushing blood across an already stained floor as if to add insult to injury; rolling across closer and closer to the edge of the mountain in a way that felt disgustingly familiar to Koma.
Fumbling to their four-paws no matter how nauseating the way his broken arm crunched in response may have seen, it was the only way they knew to get the launch he needed to make it before she fell. Sprinting in pain as they readied themselves, replaying the past couple hours in his mind yet again as if it'd give them any sort of leverage here; all this to make a springing leap towards Scout as her limb frame slipped over the precipice in a terrifying moment for all who dared to watch.
...
He was too late.
Spluttering up snowflakes as they watched what he thought was the final glimpse of Scout's living body slip away from their grasp just like that. Laying there with a choking sob gnawing at his throat as the siren roared in triumph at their catastrophic failure, Scout was gone and it was mocking him so for it. Koma, no matter how hard they tried to be big and brave and what Scout thought he could be... they still failed her all the same.
Tears streaming down whilst others seemingly came to help and reassure.
She was gone.
