Kloe sat up slowly in her bed and glanced around in the blackened bedroom, her green eyes blinking against the dim light. The moonlight didn’t seem particularly bright this night, but it was still enough for her to just make out the interior. What had woken her? Her leafy ears perked up when she heard faint but distinct whispers. That. That was what woke her up. She thought she had heard them before, but she kept writing them off as something else… and they became more apparent each time.

The earth draken shivered against the night chill, as her blanket slipped off her shoulders. She brushed aside her vine hair as she stifled a yawn. She had a feeling she wouldn’t get much sleep if she didn’t investigate whatever was going on. It had been a while, but she did hear faint voices before- auditory hallucinations of her fragmented past… at least that’s what she had come to believe they were. These voices seemed different…

Kloe slipped out of bed and crossed the room to check on Clover, the small nyulop she had adopted off the streets. She gently caressed her head, smiling fondly, and pushing down a strange unexplained sense that she may not see her again. She glanced at her pets nestled next to her child and her warm smile widened. What could ever keep her from her loved ones?

The brown skinned finley grabbed her cloak and draped it across her back, rustling her wings to adjust beneath the fabric. Fastening her outerwear she silently opened the bedroom door and stepped into the hall.

Now outside, she shuddered against the night chill. Spring was nearly upon Whistler Crest but until then the nights were still bitterly cold. But her thoughts trailed off when she heard the whispers again. Were they a bit louder? She followed the sounds, wandering toward where they were loudest until she found herself at the museum. Curious, Kloe opened the door and stepped inside.

Soon, she was opening a storage room door. Her body stiffened when the creaking sound cracked against the silence. As the quiet returned the whispers spoke again, louder then ever, and she looked up and around, eyebrows furrowing. Her eyes squinted in the darkness before her gaze fell upon a black sphere. What… was that?
