They had this all planned out, or at least Watson had this all planned out after a long discussion with Chess about the best way to approach a pieshu.
They’d maybe spent a few days watching this Pieshu, along with its owner.
They’d never directly interacted with Marshall, not at all.
Didn’t really know anything about him either.
As if that would be important or something, they’re just after the pieshu afterall.
Chess and Osiris would be the ones that would go and get them, Watson would be the lookout.
Their plan scribbled out in Crayon, tactics mapped out with leaves and twigs.
As far as Byte and Knox were concerned this was a silly little game, and they were so happy their eldest was getting along with their adopted children.
Their children couldn’t possibly be up to anything nefarious.
When the day they’d planned for came about, they walked their escape route a few times, making sure they knew exactly where they were going.
Making sure they had the snacks ready they wanted to use to lure the Pieshu.
Watson at his lookout point, or least where they had deemed it to be the best lookout point, as far as they were concerned, Marshall would be of no threat.
Because who would hurt a child.
They could see them just lazing around, an afternoon nap.
The sun shining, a perfect spot for any creature.
Their owner? Nowhere in sight.
Perfect.
Even with no one being in sight, Chess and Osiris were doing their best to be quiet and sneaky as they approached the Pieshu.
Adjusting the armful of snacks, Osiris shuffled over lowering to their knees as they carefully setting a piece of food down in front of the pieshu.Hoping the scent of the food would wake them.
Chess, moved round to be on the opposite side, assessing how this would work.
None of them had taken into account the size of the creature.
“....they look a lot smaller when you’re not beside them…” Chess whispered.
Osiris just smiled as the Pieshu woke up, a surprise snack, and eager to munch.
“So does that mean you can’t carry them?” Osiris looked to Chess with excited expectation.
“...” Chess looked at Osiris, confused, did this lop really think a small draken like him could pick up this thing?!
He turned and looked round for Watson, who was still just stood in the distance watching, giving a wave when Chess looked over.
He sighed and looked back to the Pieshu, Osiris holding another snack for it to eat.
He picked up one of the paws, even that wasn’t light for him.
Osiris moved away but holding snacks meant the pieshu stood up, following for the food.
“Oh!” Osiris got up, and held a piece of food above Chess’ head, and soon the weight of the pieshu on Chess’ shoulders, Eyes wide at the realization of the weight and size of this thing, trying to move with this weight brought Chess to the ground, The pieshu bounding forward to get the snack, catching Chess’ ear.
Osiris laughed, but moved, bringing the snacks with them, the pieshu following.
Chess stayed down for a moment, rolling and getting up, dusting mud out of his fur and turning to the pieshu, “can it at least move faster?” he snipped, trying to push it forward.
With that failing and going round and shoving Osiris out the way to try pulling of the pieshu’s paws, “c’mon! Move faster!”
“HEY! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING!”
Watson was waving his arms frantically trying to indicate there was a problem, that Marshall was there.
Despite the obvious.
A fullgrown Nyulop rushing toward them, blade in hand, ready to protect the pieshu, scooping it up as if it was still a pup, whether the lop was aware that they had also slashed into Chess’ leg was in no way clear, even after Chess shuffled away, the feeling of the injury stinging more once aware of it and prolonged contact with the air.
Osiris dropped the snacks, running with intention of trying to push Marshall or scare him.
But with putting the pieshu down and turning back with anger, Osiris just caught onto his wing, his best effort at defending his draken friend doing nothing more than gnawing at the feathers.
Just easy to shake off.
Marshall was using the blade to point, except whatever Marshall was yelling, was not being heard by Chess.
It took Watson coming over and pulling Chess with him to get him to move.
Just wanting to get away as quickly as they could.
