FORCED PILGRIMAGE

Dialogue markers:  Xayah;  Parent;

Xayah always has been a problematic child, being unconsiderate to others, picking on other kids her age and throwing tantrums whenever heard a simple 'no' from adults. Her parent was a middle-aged nyulop who adopted her when she was just a little drakling, their dream was raising a child with lots of love, but things didn't really go as planned. The poor nyulop could not have foreseen that their child would be the personification of rebellion and disregard.
The adult tolerated her bad behavior for many years, trying to correct and discipline her, and most of their attempts failed miserably. The main thought in their head was "She's still a kid, when she grows up she will learn how to behave in Society" but it was, unfortunately, very wrong.
Xaya developed her third eye gem completely by the age of fifteen, that's when she started to become even more disrespectful towards everyone. Upon awakening basic ice magic, the draken started to breathe ice in other teens her age who couldn't defend themselves just for fun.
When her parent discovered that her behavior had become even more aggressive than usual, they decided to finally take drastic action, as a last desperate attempt, take her on a pilgrimage hoping that contact with a spirit guardian would put her head on straight.
This day, the teen draken was relaxing on the sofa at home, when her parent arrived home stomping his foot loudly and flung the door open shouting loudly at her: "That's it Xayah, I think no one can take your behavior anymore!"
"Uh, what's that all about, oldie?" Xayah frowned
"Don't give me that, you know VERY well what I'm talking about" The nyulop stepped closer, their two-toed paws making dry noises on the wooden floor of the house.
"What? This is out of the fucking blue, i'm literally chilling here" The teen stood up from the sofa, visibly annoyed.
"You little brat, now just because you've discovered you can use magic doesn't mean you can go around spitting ice in finley's faces" The parent pointed their paw on xaya's face, shivering with anger, a rage never before seen on their face. "I thought you would grow up a better finley, I REALLY wanted to believe that"
The teen draken couldn't stand the shouting anymore, and grabbed the nyulop's paw in front of her, pushing it away from her face. She stared her parent dead in the eye for a second and and spat a jet of ice in their face, exhaling an icy smoke through her nostrils. "A little ice won't hurt anyo-" She was abruptly interrupted by a loud slap sound, and felt her cheek heat up in the contact area.
"You disgust me. I've never in my life... used magic against you, not even to correct you"
"Maybe you should've then" The draken released Nyulop's arm and took a step back.
The nyulop then tied up their daughter's wrists with a rope made of their own mana, staring at her with a discredited face "You're coming with me, like it or not. Let's see if you'll keep this attitude in front of Atmos"
"Why are you doing this to me? Let me go" She began to strain at the rope around her wrists in an attempt to free herself, without success, her parent was a strong nyulop regardless of appearances.
"I said you're coming with me. I have had enough. Everyone who has had the displeasure of meeting you throughout their life has had enough." That last sentence stung xayah's heart. The nyulop tightened the rope and she swallowed hard, it was the first time she had seen her parent so serious and firm.
They forced their daughter to sit back down on the sofa and wait while they went inside pack a backpack with some supplies needed for a pilgrimage. The draken was restless, huffing and puffing, still trying to free herself from the mana rope around her wrists. Occasional sounds of exertion could be heard from the room where the nyulop packed their luggage.
"It's no use, get used to it" The parent went back into the room and fixed a cold look on their daughter's eyes "You will remain bound throughout the entire pilgrimage so that I can be sure you won't run away, even if it means I'll get a mana burn because of it."
"I HATE YOU" Xayah shouted "I'VE NEVER ASKED TO BE YOUR DAUGHTER, YOU JUST WANTED TO FULFILL YOUR STUPID DREAM TO BE A PARENT" The draken's voice faltered during her shouting "OH AND I'M SORRY I'M NOT THE GOOD DAUGHTER YOU WANTED ME TO BE, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO CHANGE BECAUSE OF A STUPID SPIRIT, IDIOT" She clenched her jaw holding back the tears that threatened to spill.
After a few seconds where all that could be heard was the heavy breathing of the enraged draken, the nyulop told her with a firm voice:
"You can scream all you want, we're catching the next train, and we'll get off relatively close to the Temple of Atmos, and this will be your last chance to behave" and after a big sigh, they completed "You're old enough to be responsible for your own actions".
With some difficulty, Xayah was guided by her parent to the train station, where they took a 'shortcut' for the pilgrimage instead of walking the entire way from Whistler Crest to its shrine for several days. The parent had some hope using this as their last resource, but Xayah had no intention whatsoever of cooperating.

The text feels a little rushed because it's the first time i'm writing anything about her, i don't like the lack of explanation but she've been a bit to literally everyone all her life and their parent tried to correct her for many years untill shit exploded lol. hope this counts for trekking up to the shrine's location with hostile intentions, because it's all she has.
