The Worst Pal-entine

It was Heartsgiving season, one of the perfect seasons for a god given mortal form.

Nikolai had practically been first in line to sign up for the Secret Pal-entine event. After all, who wouldn’t want to be given the chance to create a declaration of adoration for him? He didn’t bother to listen to the one organizing the event explaining the instructions. Their talk wasn’t worth his time.

However, when he got home with the form, and Ori caught a glance over his shoulder, he quickly learned that he was also meant to provide a sufficient “card” for his secret Pal-entine. Immediately, he complained to Ori.

“But why should me- a god- have to exchange a card? My so-called “Pal-entine” should simply be happy with bringing an offering to me.”

Ori looked exasperated. “Nikolai…” He opened his mouth to say something before his ears perked up. “Well… a benevolent god would send a sign to his followers of his love, would he not? You cannot make miracles without your powers right now, but you can provide a card in exchange. After all, this is a simple task for a god is it not?”

Nikolai stopped in his tracks, looking up at Ori with wide eyes.

Ori was right.

How could he not have seen? Of course he should be given an offering, but a god would often work miracles in exchange.

Immediately, he jumped up, rushing toward the desk. “Of course! And it will be the most perfect card out of all of them!” He leapt up onto the chair, rustling around for paper. “All of them must see just how perfect, powerful, yet benevolent I am. I can be a merciful god too.”

Ori laughed softly behind him, gathering up the form. “Of course. And I know you will create something beautiful.”

Nikolai smiled to himself, setting to work to create a masterpiece.

He worked throughout the days leading up the exchange, taking his time to perfect the script, the colors, the design. At first he struggled- it wasn’t perfect like he wanted it to be. But over the days, he managed to create something beautiful. One the day of the event’s exchange, Nikolai collected his card and a small box of cookies he and Ori had made, and left to meet his subject. A Draken named Fawn.

He just knew that when they saw his card, they would know just a hint of his true perfection. And he looked forward to receiving a token of their praise in the form of gifts.

If it went according to plan- and why wouldn’t it?- he would have a new loyal follower.

At least the card looks nice (Nikolai tried very very hard to make it neat) and the cookies are good (Ori helped with the cookies.)

Fawn is owned by LoveIsLaw
