Razorquill birds occupy the same areas as Mountain Pieshu, often competing for territory and potentially becoming one another's meals. Be extremely careful while travelling!
These birds live within the Morray Woods away from civilization. They tend not to get near towns, hence why they don’t inhabit the outskirts of Whistler Crest. They are very solitary and hunt by themselves. These territorial birds will fight each other for space and do not come together unless it is mating season.
Razorquills lay eggs and are incredibly protective of their babies. Baby Razorquills are particularly hardened against their parents needle-like defenses, so a mother will tuck her babies underneath her sharp feathers when defending against attackers or intruders. The male is not present in raising the babies, and a baby Razorquill will leave the den around 3 months of age when their feathers are able to harden like their mother’s. They leave to claim their own territory and will not return home.
Razorquills are omnivores, though they primarily hunt prey to eat and will only eat berries and bark if meat is scarce. Razorquills will snatch up bugs, domesticated Pieshu and other medium sized animals - though the most brazen of Razorquills may even attack lone Draken or Nyulop travelers.
They become particularly peckish around the months of autumn, digging their dens down further. These smart creatures will insulate their dens with what brush remains and sleep until spring. It is advised not to walk near wilted leafy patches in the forest when the snow falls.
